A popular surgery conducted to correct vision for people who are near sighted, farsighted or have astigmatism is called LASIK (laser in-situ keratomileusis) Surgery
It is one of the several surgical techniques that work by reshaping the cornea, the clear front part of the eye, so that the light traveling through it is properly focused onto the retina located in the back of the eye.
Lasik Surgery is a refractive surgery which reshapes the cornea in such a way that rays of light converge on the retina and therefore the eligibility criteria depends upon the refractive error of the patient and the corneal integrity. After performing few detailed tests on the cornea and by co relating it with the refractive, Dr. Himanshu Mehta can assess your eligibility for Lasik Surgery.
Listen to Dr. Himanshu Mehta speak about Lasik Surgery and how technology at The Vission Eye Center can bring about complete, swift restoration of vision.
Blade free USFDA approved Contura Vision
Contoura Vision Topo Guided LASIK is a latest technology designed to enhance the effects of LASIK. It corrects the vision based on the corneal topography (corneal curvature maps) as against the correction of vision in a standard LASIK surgery which is only based on glasses or contact lens prescription. Contoura Vision Topo Guided LASIK involves the use of a separate diagnostic device called topolyser which provides measurement of 22,000 points on the cornea capturing the imperfections in both the curvature and the optics of the cornea. These topographic measurements are then combined with the patient’s eyeglass prescription and a customized treatment profile is created and programmed into the state-of-the-art Laser. The final laser ablation is performed by the allegro machine laser system. Thus this technology works to optimize the corneal surface during LASIK surgery procedure. Irregular elevation points on the eye can disrupt the light entering your eye and prevent you from achieving optimal vision. These maps allow Contoura® Vision to create a customised vision correction treatment unique to your eye. Unlike mechanical instruments, the blade-free LASIK surgery technology is uniquely able to program the dimensions of your flap based on what's best for your eyes. Then a femtosecond laser creates your flap from below the surface of the cornea without ever cutting it. Ultra-fast pulses of laser light position microscopic bubbles at a precise depth predetermined. The laser light passes harmlessly through your cornea. The process takes only about 30 seconds from start to finish- it's quiet and it's comfortable
ASLA (Advanced Surface Laser Ablation) was first introduced to treat short-sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism. The procedure was originally called PRK (Photo Refractive Keratectomy), however, as techniques improved, it became known as ASLA. ASLA is used to treat short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism, however, it is most commonly recommended to patients with thin corneas or those with high prescriptions where it might not be possible to perform LASIK. If you are over 18 years of age and have healthy eyes you may be suitable for ASLA. At The Vission Eye Center we will perform a comprehensive range of tests to evaluate the structure and health of your eyes to ensure you are an eligible candidate for ASLA. To perform ASLA, Dr. Himanshu removes the surface cells from the cornea (epithelium) using a solution that softens this layer for easier removal. The underlying cornea is then reshaped using the excimer laser.
